Building Rotary’s future

As advised in previous editions of Rotary Down Under, the Rotary International Board has agreed to Rotary in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands developing a plan to revitalise Rotary in our region. This is an exciting opportunity for all interested Rotarians to have their say.

A full explanation of the project, its aims and objectives, was provided in the November 2019 edition of RDU (pages 46-51) and since then an email has been issued to all Rotarians for whom an address is held.

The email provides a link to the article and links to a simple survey requesting feedback on three simple questions:

  1. What is good in Rotary and Rotaract and should be retained?

  2. What needs to change and why?

  3. In an ideal world, how would Rotary and Rotaract be structured and operated?

The project committee is particularly keen to ensure engagement of all Rotarians as we seek to regenerate Rotary’s future, especially for our region. We therefore encourage as many people as possible to participate. Answers to the survey questions will be reviewed by the five working groups, who will formulate recommendations under some key objectives and then seek further feedback. These working groups will look objectively at how we can better address the following key areas for our region:

  • Communications (internal and technology)

  • Culture (including memberships and clubs)

  • Governance and structure

  • Public image

  • Leadership and development

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.”

Charles Darwin

Where are we at?

  • The Regional Pilot Planning Group have developed the vision, purpose and objectives for the project (see RDU November 2019).

  • Five working groups have been established, each with co-chairs from New Zealand and Australia. They are seeking input from a range of different groups and, along with the feedback from the survey, will develop the objectives for each working group.

  • Project updates will be provided periodically in RDU.

  • Following a presentation to the RI Board, the project will commence implementation on July 1, 2021.

“Incoming RI Director Jessie Harman is urging all Rotarians to participate in this project.”

She hopes our work will enable us to be more effective by building on our valuable past and adapting in ways that enhance our impact and reach in this fast-changing world.

Please get involved.
